Karlsruhe/Vienna. EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG has successfully completed the sale of its 28.35 percent shareholding – which was held on a fiduciary basis by EnBW Trust e.V. – in the energy company EVN AG based in the state of Lower Austria. The transaction was completed today following approval from the Austrian and German antitrust and competition authorities.

The purchaser is Wiener Stadtwerke GmbH, Austria’s largest provider of municipal infrastructure services. The City of Vienna owns 100 percent of the shares in Wiener Stadtwerke GmbH.

EVN AG is a publicly listed company with headquarters in Maria Enzersdorf, Lower Austria. It was formed in 1986 following the merger of NEWAG, the electricity company for the state of Lower Austria, and the natural gas and district heating company NIOGAS. EVN was partially privatised through the sale of 49 percent of its shares in two stock market floatations in 1989 and 1990. The majority shareholding of 51 percent of the share capital is held by the state of Lower Austria. EnBW had held a participating interest in EVN since 2001 and transferred this interest on a fiduciary basis to EnBW Trust e.V. in the form of a CTA model at the end of 2013.
