Corporate engagement

Our corporate engagement extends to a wide variety of social and ecological projects in our region of Baden-Württemberg.

We focus our social responsibility commitment on the three target groups of end customers, business partners and communities within our main operating region, the German state of Baden-Württemberg.

Support for cross-cutting social issues is concentrated in the core focal areas of mass sports, education and social affairs, the environment and the visual and performing arts. A Group policy on corporate sponsorship, memberships, donations and higher education funding sets out the objectives, responsibilities, principles and processes for all companies in which EnBW AG holds a majority of shares or voting rights.

Alongside projects launched by EnBW itself – such as the EnBW “Make it Happen” bus – EnBW works alongside a large variety of non-profit associations, organisations, institutes and other partners. A total of €3.1 million in cash and non-cash donations were made in 2020.

Amphibian and reptile conservation programme

In 2011, EnBW AG and the Baden-Württemberg regional environment agency jointly launched the EnBW species conservation programme, “Impulse für die Vielfalt” (“A Boost for Biodiversity”).

Since the programme’s launch, assistance for amphibian and reptile conservation efforts has been provided on 125 occasions. EnBW is the first company in Germany to support a regional conservation programme with the focus not on a single species, but on two whole species groups.

We provide financial support for projects that help protect amphibian and reptile specifies in Baden-Württemberg. Eligible projects include the creation of spawning ponds for amphibians, summer habitats (such as deadwood, cairns and drystone walls) and winter quarters (rock cavities), improvement of terrestrial habitats around spawning ponds, habitat restoration and maintenance measures, and land purchases to safeguard habitats. Funded projects are expected to help improve the habitats of native amphibians and reptiles throughout the region and restore positive population trends in the medium to long term.

Energy and Climate Protection Foundation

Protecting the climate and the energy transition are societal challenges of pivotal importance for our future. Stiftung Energie & Klimaschutz (the Energy and Climate Protection Foundation) is an independent foundation through which EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG works to actively contribute to the success of the energy transition and to protecting the climate. A non-profit foundation established by EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Stiftung Energie & Klimaschutz is directed by a foundation board and an executive committee. The foundation’s purpose is to promote climate protection.

Stiftung Energie & Klimaschutz focuses in its work on issues involving the energy supply and the use of energy in relation to climate change and its impacts. The objective is to communicate and present in an understandable way the connections between the energy industry and climate protection. For this purpose, the foundation primarily aims to encourage debate. It therefore seeks to provide a platform, both online and offline, for all interested parties from policymaking, business, the scientific community and civil society to engage in robust and wide-ranging debate on our energy future.

EnBW “Make it Happen” bus

Up to ten EnBW employees at a time hit the road in the EnBW Macher-Bus (“Make it Happen” bus) as a help-out team for voluntary and charitable projects in Baden-Württemberg. The helpers swing into action for a day wherever they are needed. Each year, four projects are shortlisted by a jury and selected by popular vote in the three categories Children & Youth, Seniors & Social and Animals & Environment. In addition, each project is given €5,000 in financial support.

Visual and performing arts

EnBW supports the visual and performing arts to promote creative and cultural activities in the region. In a range of exhibition series with a particular focus on young artists, we present the artists’ works and the ideas they convey.

Like EnBW, the artists we work with have roots in Baden-Württemberg while enjoying recognition far beyond their home region. With this commitment, we aim to promote and showcase the potential of the artists we partner with, all of whom share our visionary, trailblazing mindset.
