Socially and environmentally responsible action is an integral part of our sustainable corporate strategy. With our report on German Supply Chain Due Dilligence Act, we outline in detail how we fulfill our responsibility.
Sustainability Statement and Integrated Reporting
Since 2014, we have published an Integrated Annual Report that combines traditional business and sustainability reporting.
In the 2024 financial year, we are adopting the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) as the framework for our non-financial statement for the first time. The ESRS stipulate that sustainability informations must be published in a separate section of the management report - the sustainability statement. Integrated reporting as previously presented is therefore only possible to a limited extent. The title of the report has therefore been changed to Annual Report 2024. By using references within our annual report, we continue to strive to reflect the concept of integrated reporting as far as possible. This means that we present overarching content, such as our business model, our strategy and our management system, in the management report outside of the sustainability statement. We will continue to strive for a holistic presentation of the company's performance in the future within the scope of the legal possibilities as far as possible. The environmental, economic and social dimensions are firmly anchored in our strategy and are an expression of comprehensive, integrated corporate management. A key element is the measurement of our target achievement on the basis of key performance indicators.
Non-financial declaration
We have incorporated the entire required content of the non-financial declaration into the Annual Report 2024. For a tabular presentation of this content, please see the index to the non-financial declaration of the EnBW Group and EnBW AG.
Essential aspects of reporting
For the first time, the material topics in the sustainability statement were identified using a double materiality analysis in accordance with ESRS. In addition to the impacts, risks and opportunities were also identified and evaluated. The reported data points are derived from this analysis. Our sustainability statement is structured in accordance with the ESRS standards: The general information under ESRS 2: General disclosures is followed by information on the environmental standards (E1: Climate change, E2: Pollution, E3: Water and marine resources, E4: Biodiversity and ecosystems, E5: Resource use and circular economy) This is followed by information on the social standards (S1: Own workforce, S2: Workers in the value chain, S3: Affected communities, S4: Consumers and end-users) and governance (G1: Governance).
We also fulfill the reporting obligations arising from the current version of the EU taxonomy as part of the sustainability declaration. Further details can be found on our website: EU Taxonomy.
We also align ourselves with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Reporting in accordance with the requirements of the UN Global Compact is carried out separately due to the new requirements of the Communication on Progress (COP).
ESG indicators
We measure our progress in sustainability management using quantitative indicators in the areas of environment, social affairs and governance.

Case study on the EU Sustainable Finance Taxonomy
In light of global warming, European countries have committed themselves to do more for climate protection. Both the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal view sustainable investment as an important starting point. A key tool is the creation of an EU-wide classification system for sustainable business activities – the EU taxonomy.
In line with our sustainable corporate strategy, we voluntarily published information on environmentally sustainable revenue, capex and opex as well as adjusted EBITDA for selected business activities in the 2020 financial year. In the 2021 financial year, before the reporting obligation came into effect, we then reported in full on the taxonomy alignment of our activities based on all of the final taxonomy criteria that were available at the time the Integrated Annual Report was prepared. In the 2022 financial year, we included additional economic activities in the areas of gas grids, district heating and electricity generation from gas and combined heat and power. Besides the compulsory information on the taxonomy-aligned revenue, capex and opex, we are also voluntarily publishing additional information on data on adjusted EBITDA and on capex, including the proportion for companies accounted for using the equity method.
