Dismantling of EnBW nuclear power plants

EnBW is a pioneer in Germany when it comes to dismantling

In 2011, Germany decided to phase out the use of nuclear power. EnBW responded immediately to this decision by defining a comprehensive dismantling strategy. We understand the dismantling of our five nuclear power plants as part of the energy transition and are implementing it consistently. Our subsidiary EnBW Kernkraft GmbH (EnKK) is responsible for this under nuclear law.

The entire dismantling program has been approved

With our approach, we have established ourselves as a pioneer in Germany when it comes to dismantling. We are the first operator whose entire nuclear power plant portfolio has been dismantled: Obrigheim since 2008, the Neckarwestheim I and Philippsburg 1 plants since 2017, the Philippsburg 2 plant since 2020 and the Neckarwestheim II plant since May 2023. This was made possible by setting the course early on. We were thus able to ensure that the entire dismantling program for all plants has been fully approved by the supervisory authority within the framework of nuclear law. It is important to us that safety always has top priority, even during dismantling.
